Come, Holy Spirit: Praying for the Election of Our New Holy Father

The Conclave Begins May 7

As we prepare for the upcoming Conclave on May 7, the whole Church unites in prayer and hope. This sacred gathering of the College of Cardinals is a moment of deep reflection and trust in the Holy Spirit, as they discern the successor to Pope Francis. It is a time for all the faithful to lift our hearts to God, asking for a shepherd who will lead the Church with wisdom, holiness, and compassion.

We invite everyone to join together in prayer during this important time:

A Prayer for the Election of a New Pope

Dear God, our Heavenly Father and Eternal Shepherd,
You govern Your flock with unfailing care and deep abiding love.
We entrust to Your boundless mercy the soul of Your dear servant, Pope Francis.

Please grant in Your boundless Fatherly love, a Pastor for Your Church
who will please You by his holiness and give us watchful care.
Reveal Your will to the College of Cardinals and open their hearts to the inspiration of Your Holy Spirit.
Please give us a shepherd of deep compassion,
a man of profound faith and hope, filled with Your love,
that he may lead us to help bring Your Kingdom to earth
and permeate the darkness of this world with the light of Christ, our Risen Savior!

We ask You this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Saint Joseph, Patriarch of the Universal Church, pray for us.
