Legend of the Dogwood Cross

According to legend, in the days of Jesus the dogwood tree grew strong and tall and its branches were chosen to build the cross on which Jesus was crucified. On seeing the distress of the tree that its branches were used for this horrific act to crucify their Creator, Jesus made a promise that its branches would never again be used for this purpose. He made the tree smaller, to never again be able to build a cross with, with beautiful blossoms shaped as the cross. The petals are marked in brown like the blood stains on the cross, and in the center of the blossom sits the shape of a thorny crown.

Although just a legend, this cross symbolizes the beauty of the cross and the will of God fulfilled through it.
